  1. TODAY 11/25 - LAST CHANCE to come in after school and earn back 1/2 point for each incorrect answer on your River Valleys Test. I will give you a copy of the test and, on a separate sheet of paper, you must write out the question and correct answer to receive credit. You may use your text and / or notes.
  2. Prepare for CLASSICAL INDIA TEST and BINDER CHECK on WED 12/3.
  3. If your parent/guardian emails me about my website, http://butterfield.davious.org, I will drop your lowest 10 pt HW grade or add 5 pts to your binder grade. Your parent / guardian can use the email link directly off the website. They just need to acknowledge that they reviewed the website and bookmarked it for future reference.
  4. Get progress report signed by parent / guardian.
  5. Finish any HW assignments you have not completed for the 2nd Qtr.

  1. Finish Karma / Dharma Picture (must use at least 5 colors). For an example, click here. Include the title and captions given in the example, but provide your own graphics.
  2. Finish the Classical India Map.
  3. Read about Buddhism & India’s Empires on pp. 208 - 214 of your text.
  4. Add to your “Classical India Vocab” list. Define the terms on p. 210 & 214, Section Review #s 1 & 2. You should have a total of 11 words (starting with nirvana and ending with Shakuntala).
  5. Create a new divider for your notebook entitled: Era 3 Classical Civilizations. For an example, click here.
    Divider Requirements: (to receive full 10 pts)
    · Prominently (clearly and largely) display the title on your divider: “Era 3 Classical Civilizations”
    · At least 1 picture / graphic that has to do with a classical civilization and a caption for your picture. The visual may be computer-generated or hand-drawn. For ideas, see note below.
    · In color – at least 5 colors used for the assignment.
    · The small side tab of the divider should be labeled: “Era 3”.

Note: Please refer to the following chapters of your text to get an idea of the content of this unit, Classical Civilizations. It should help you decide on what type of picture you want to include on your divider.

  1. Read about the Origins of Hindu India on pp. 202 - 207 of your text. Due Wed 11/19.
  2. You will be keeping a list of vocabulary terms for this unit. Title your sheet of paper, “Classical India Vocab” and then define the terms on p. 207, Section Review #s 1 & 2. You should have a total of 16 words (starting with rajah and ending with Upanishads). Due Wed 11/19.
  3. On a blank piece of paper, re-create the chart entitled “Early India’s Social System” from p. 203. Due Wed 11/19.
    Early India’s Social System Chart Requirements: (to receive full 15 pts)
    · Define what each level or varna of the pyramid (India’s social structure) means. You may use a key, color code, or label the levels of the pyramid.
    · Include an illustration for each social class & a brief description of what they do.
    · In color – at least 5 colors used for the assignment
    · Answer the “Chart Study” questions on p. 203. You may put the answers on the back of your assignment.

  4. Begin to write questions for River Valleys (RV) Review Game. Students are divided into 4 teams. Each team is given 2 categories for which they must create RV review questions & answers. STEP 1: Each individual member is responsible for writing 2 questions & answers for their team. STEP 2: Individuals will share their questions with the team and the group will collectively decide on the 6 best questions for each category. STEP 3: Get your group’s questions approved by Ms. Butterfield. STEP 4: Write your review questions on the “index cards”. Place the category on one side and the question and answer on the other.

Category Assignments:
Group 1 - Egypt & Mesopotamia
Group 2 - Indus & Huang He
Group 3 - Geography & Characteristics of Civilization
Group 4 - Grab Bag & Writing

Your questions should reflect material that we have covered thoroughly in class. The object of the review game is to PREPARE you for what you will see on the test. Please do not write obscure questions or try to “trick” other teams. These type of questions will not be accepted!

Homework

Agenda

  1. Collect RV Graphic Summaries (Indus, Egypt, Mesopotamia)
  2. You teach the class! Students are divided into 3 sections: Group 1 teaches about the Geography of the Early Indus Valley, Group 2 teaches about the Geography of Early China, & Group 3 teaches about the Early People of China. Groups 1 & 2 are responsible for presenting an enlarged map of the area and answers to the questions on the worksheet. Group 3 is responsible for presenting a chart about the cultures that existed before the Shang Dynasty (Yangshao, Lungshan, & Xia). Students become “experts” on their subject matter and share their information with the other students in-class. Each student is responsible for completing their own set of notes based on the students’ “lesson”.
    NOTE: It is to your advantage to take “good” notes and pay attention in class b/c you will be able to use these notes on your upcoming Indus / China River Valleys Quiz.

Homework
