  1. Greek Philosophers Summary (S-P-A)
    Directions: On a sheet of paper, please complete the following:
    - Define philosophy & logic (p. 135)
    - Name the 3 great Greek philosophers (pp. 135-137)
    - Include at least 3 important facts about each philosopher (major beliefs, accomplishments, etc.)
    - 1 picture (in color) that relates to each philosopher – total of 3 pics
    For an example, click here. If you wish, you may use the facts I have listed as a start.
  2. Contributions of Greek Culture to Western Civilization
    Directions: On a sheet of paper, please complete the following:
    - 8 Categories: Write the major contribution of each person or thing in the category.
    - Include a picture (in color) for each category (minimum of 8 pictures).
    Categories of Contributions:
    1. Drama: Aeschylus, Sophocles (p.132)
    2. Poetry: Homer (p.108)
    3. History: Herodotus, Thucydides (p.137, 138)
    4. Athletics: Olympics, Pentathlon (p.134)

  2. Athenian government Reformers Worksheet - use pp. 118-119 of text. Learn about the changes that these four leaders brought about which steered Athens toward democracy.
  3. Comparison of Life in Two City-States: Athens & Sparta. You will summarize government, economy, education, and the status of women and slaves for both Athens and Sparta. If you were absent, you will need to borrow the reading packets (TO BE RETURNED!) in order to complete the worksheet. You may also use your text pp. 115-119.

You have one of two options of delivery: 1) email your ppt to projects@butterfield.davious.org or 2) logon to the JMHS network & save the ppt to the H: drive. You should look for my folder amongst all the JMHS teachers, kabutterfield1. Click on that folder and then save to the INBOX folder so that I can access it.

    · Prominently (clearly and largely) display the title: “Ancient Greece: Classical Civilization”.
    · Select a theme from one of the seven listed on p. 104 and p. 128. Include a visual that illustrates that theme. The graphic may be computer-generated or hand-drawn. You must include a caption that decribes the visual.
    · In color – at least 5 colors used for the title page.

  1. Due Fri 2/13: Greek Mythology Group Project. There are some slight adjustments to the project requirements. For full details please refer to the Project Directions & Rubric.
  2. By THURS 2/5: Bring in your favorite CD (it must be school-appropriate)! Please write your name and class period on the jewel case and identify your favorite track number. We will use the music contributions of the first 10 people that bring in an acceptable song. The music will be used as part of an experiential activity in which we explore the different forms of Athenian goverment in ancient Greece.
